Think dogs are the only ones who can work? Think again! While the cat may demand a higher salary and definitely more nap breaks, here are a few cats that are working like dogs.
#1 – Therapy Cat
Just like dogs, cats make great therapy animals, visiting hospitals and retirement facilities to bring joy to those who can no longer have a pet around. Eli is a member of Pet Partners International and is the “library Cat” at a school. His owner, Marilyn Barsaleau, says he loves his job.

#2 – Cancer Detecting
While there has been research to back the claim that dogs can sniff out cancer, there are several antidotal stories of cats doing the same thing for their owners. One women believes her cat saved her life by detecting breast cancer before the doctors could.
#3 – Epilepsy Detection
Another “job” people think of as a dog-only gift, there are cat owners who claim their cats do this as well. For example, Cacoa’s owner has epilepsy and in this video she explains how her cat has alerted her to a coming seizure ever since they got her. No training required.
#4 – Death Prediction
Okay, so only one cat is widely known to have a sense about impending death…but how many cats are in a situation where they would encounter death over and over again? Oscar was a resident cat at Steere House Nursing and Rehabilitation Center who appeared to have the uncanny ability to sense when the next patient was going to pass away. David Dosa, the geriatrician who worked with Oscar wrote a book about it even.
#5 – Emotional Support
This one should be a “no brainer” to anyone that owns a cat. Of course they help us cope with things. There is something about that soft, warm body and purr that can ease many anxieties.
