These fluffy, blue-eyed beauties are undoubtedly one of the most beautiful cat breeds in existence. 1. Those Adorable Looks Perfectly Match Their Sweet Personalities

The Birman is a generally well-mannered cat that is loving and affectionate with their humans, eager to be near. These gentle cats are very popular for their sweet disposition and calm personalities. Fun fact: all purebred Birmans are born entirely white.

2. This is One Sacred Kitty

From their breed name, it’s not difficult to figure out that these cats originated in Burma. According to legend this blue-eyed beauty had some help from the divine intervention of a blue-eyed goddess worshipped in the country’s mythology to achieve its stunning eye color. Also it’s believed that these cats were the sacred companions of the Kitteh priests in Burma and they were awarded with white paws as a symbol of purity for their devotion. And although they are commonly known as a Birman, they are also often referred to as the Sacred Cat of Burma.

3. A Voice as Soft as Their Appearance is Pretty

Though these cats are somewhat similar to the Siamese of Thailand, the Birman is very soft spoken. If and when they do meow the sound is soft and sweet with a “bell-like” ring to it. These cats aren’t known for being noisy, and with a voice as angel-like as theirs, you wouldn’t even know they were there with their gentle disposition. Fun fact: the Birman is one of the healthiest breeds of cats there is with almost no health issues reported.

4. Don’t Let All That Fur Fool You

Although the Birman has a full topcoat, with no undercoat, these cats require minimal grooming as their fur does not matt or tangle. The silky coat is also reported to only give off little shedding, and a thorough brush approximately twice a week is all that is needed to keep these cats looking picture perfect all the time. Fun fact: this breed is also known for its hypoallergenic qualities!

5. The Birman Does Not Do Well with Solitude

While some cats prefer to be alone, the Birman is most certainly not one of them. These cats prefer to be with their humans, or other animals in the home, often following them around when they are near. The Birman is a highly social breed that prefers interaction and is not recommended for a home environment where they would be frequently left alone for hours on end. This breed needs constant interaction, and will make you feel special with their strong desire to be near. Awe!
