1. Tenacious Kitty Cat
Once a Somali gets an idea in its mind, there is no stopping them from getting what they want. These cats are by no means aggressive, but they are persistent in getting way they want once something triggers their curiosities. Given their desire for satisfy their curious little minds, these clever kitties won’t be shy about snooping in your cabinets and finding themselves some mischief.

2. One Dexterous Feline
The Somali is an agile and active cat breed, with one trait that stands out significantly among other cat breeds: their dexterous paws. This cat breed loves to play with toys and keeps themselves constantly entertained, and they use their paws often when playing almost like a monkey would. With their awesome dexterity, these cats will actually hold objects in their paws and even manipulate them when playing. Fun fact: Because of their fox-like appearance, this cat breed is appropriately nicknamed the “fox cat.”

3. Breed Origins Unknown
This breed first started appearing in the United States in the 1950’s, and is believed to have come about as a result of crossbreeding between an Abyssinian and a domestic longhair cat. The exact origins for this breed is unknown, but given their striking similarities, these cats definitely do look as if they are a longhaired version of the Abyssinian.

4. Pretty Coat That Needs Attention
These cats are certainly beautiful to look at, but with all that luxurious fur there are some grooming requirements attached when owning one. Because the Somali has a thick undercoat, this can create tangles and matts if not cared for properly. In order to keep them looking well-maintaiend on a daily basis, at least 3 grooming sessions a week is recommended to keep their thick coat looking fresh. Fun fact: The Somali comes in four different color variations: red, fawn, blue, and ruddy.

5. Not for the Fragile
Because a Somali is such an energetic and naturally adventurous cat breed, they are best suited in active families that won’t mind them accidentally knocking things over from time to time when their curiosity strikes or in the midst of heated play. These loving cats are affectionate with their humans, but are by no means your lap cat that will go limp relaxing in your arms.
