Some cats have a fine eye for art, and while Richard Parker has only one eye, he has a true appreciation for the art gallery his mom made for him.
His eye lost to an injury in kittenhood, Richard Parker is a handsome black cat, used to exploring and learning fancy tricks. He’s already mastered “jumping through a hoop, dinging a bell for treats and shaking hands,” according to cat dad and comedian, Jake Lambert.
Obviously, Richard is a cat who needs stimulation. But he’s currently taking it easy for a foot injury and he’d grown bored in his recovery. As had his parents in their second month of coronavirus lockdown.
Jess Atkins, Richard’s mom and a senior veterinary nurse at the Royal Veterinary College, knows the importance of keeping cats entertained, and, in her boredom, she created a special event just for Richard. After an hour of preparation, Jess opened a purrfect fine art gallery for Richard’s viewing.
Jake explained, “We thought we could all do with some entertainment. All cats require a lot of stimulation, and we thought he might enjoy taking in some culture.”

Fine Art Fan
While the art in Richard’s gallery features some of the great masterpieces of history, they might not look the way you remember. The pieces are the reimaginings of great art with Fat Cat Zarathustra added. The works are created by Zarathustra’s mom, Svetlana Petrova, and Richard Parker has proven a fan, taking in all the details of the cat-sized art.
Jake reported, “He loved all the portraits, especially The Creation of Adam by Michelangelo, probably because this particular version depicted the cat as a god, and we all know that’s exactly how cats see themselves.”
Indeed, cats believe themselves divine and now that his mom and dad have given him an art gallery, what will Richard Parker expect next!

But there’s more than art to see in Jess’s creation. Jess and Jake made certain every detail an art gazer might find in a gallery was included.

The artwork appeared in frames. Sticky notes made ideal plaques for declaring ‘no photography’ and ‘no food or drink’. The devoted cat parents even roped off certain displays.
And, though it’s a gallery for one, there’s “enough for two cats to enjoy it whilst still maintaining social distancing.”

Jake posted Richard’s art gallery on Twitter and it turns out, so many people needed the joy such a sight inspires. “A lot of people tweeted us to say it was exactly what they needed, and many people said it made them really happy and that’s all we could hope for.”
In these strange times, we mustn’t forget happiness and cats are just the inspiration we need to keep smiling!
