Sometimes when you find yourself bored with life, you’ve gotta make a big change. For one couple that felt stuck in the rat race, they took this to a new extreme–and haven’t looked back since! Meet Matt and Jessica Johnson, a happily married couple that took the plunge to follow their destiny–with one lucky rescue cat in tow. In 2008, this adventurous couple quit their jobs and sold all their possessions as a means to buy a boat in hopes to travel the world. Oh, and they had no sailing experience to speak of. Pretty crazy, but this was their dream and they were bound to pursue it.

After spending 3 years practicing on their Sabre 34 Targa boat, they were finally ready to set sail on adventure and begin their new life. But life for them wouldn’t be the same unless they had a special feline friend to share it with. So in 2012, they adopted George from a no-kill shelter.
Here’s a photo of sweet George when she was still a baby and first came into their lives:

“She does very well with the sailing and is more steady on her feet than we are,” Jessica said. “She loves sitting on the deck and watching the fish over the side of the boat when we are at anchor. We found out she can swim when she jumped overboard in Grand Cayman. She swam around the back of the boat and climbed up the ladder.”
When the boat is set to sail, Matt and Jessica are so that little Georgie is resting safely in the cockpit or below deck. If she comes out onto the main deck, she’s fitted with her harness and leash for safety precautions. They take pride in keeping their cat safe, because they would be heartbroken if anything happened to their travel companion.
