There is nothing a mother wouldn’t do to make sure her children are safe, even at the cost of her own well-being.
This dedicated mama and her kittens were found in a shed. She was exhausted, refusing to sleep knowing that the shed wasn’t the safest spot for her babies. Putting the health of her tiny kittens before hers, she would allow them to nurse even though she had a skin infection that caused pain that was enough to make her cry out. The whole lot of them were covered in fleas and they were in desperate need of help.
A good Samaritan found the little family and took them to Purrfect Pets in Overland Park, Kansas. Once she realized that she and her babies were in good, kind hands, Mama Cat finally allowed herself to rest, and slept for the first time in what may have been days.
Even though their mother did her best, the kittens were still severely underweight. They would have to be separated from her so that the whole family could have time to heal, and overnight (and with lots of baths) they improved remarkably! They were given a soft surrogate to snuggle while their mother got some much-needed rest, and after three days, she was ready to be with her kittens again.
Her foster supplemented feedings to make sure the whole litter was well-fed, and when her milk supply was replenished, she took full control of mealtimes.
Healed and happy in her foster home with her family, the mother was named Violet Grey, and is a total snuggle bug! She loves attention and affection, and wants all the love her foster family has to give!
Her kittens are growing well, and have been named for the cute little peanuts they are – Charlie, Linus van Pelt, Lucy, Marcie, and Patty! The rambunctious bunch was described by their foster as being curious and mischievous to Love Meow!
Thanks to their mother’s dedication and the great work of their rescuers, this family is thriving!
