Two weeks after being surrendered to the MSPCA-Angell shelter in the Boston area, Ivan the kitten had yet to receive a single adoption application. You see, the 10-month-old tuxedo kitty is a little different from the other pets at the shelter.
Ivan was born with deformities in both front legs and one hind leg. The affected limbs look twisted and he has some difficulty getting around, but that doesn’t mean he’s not an absolute sweetheart!
Still, this energetic boy has his own special way of moving about. He has taught himself how to crawl, and can get his best grip on carpeted surfaces. What’s more, he’s very affectionate and loves to play!
Boston Magazine reports:
“What Ivan lacks in mobility he more than makes up for in personality,” said MSPCA-Angell adoption center manager Alyssa Krieger in a statement. “His physical limitations will always be there, so we’re looking for the perfect adopter who can see through that and give him the second chance he deserves.”
Since his story has been picked up by the local media, applications have started to pour in. An update on the MSPCA-Angell Facebook page says that over 300 families have applied for Ivan’s adoption so far! That’s not too shabby for a lonely kitty who was overlooked for a full two weeks.
The shelter posted this advice for anyone who’d like to be considered for Ivan’s adoption (could that be you?):
“…the MSPCA Boston Adoption Center is encouraging all those interested to make their [way] to the Jamaica Plain shelter by end of day Saturday to meet him and fill out an application.”
Ivan’s caretakers have also set up an Instagram account where his growing fan base can be updated on his progress. Follow @IvanTheTwisted to stay in-the-know.
We’re glad that Ivan has touched so many hearts, and we know that when the time is right, he’ll find the purrfect forever home! This spirited kitten is proof that physical disabilities have no impact on the ability to love.
