German Shepherds are known not only for their intelligence and strength but also for their loving and gentle nature. Tennyson, or Tenny for short, is a perfect example of how kind this breed can be.

Tenny has a new little sibling at home—a tiny kitten! Some people might worry about a big dog around a small kitten, but Tenny shows there’s nothing to fear. He wants to be the best big brother he can be.

In a video posted on YouTube, a small black and white kitten is trying to climb the stairs. At first, all you can see is Tenny standing over the little kitty.

As their mom records the kitten struggling up the steps, she gently tells Tenny to let the kitten try on his own. Tenny listens and steps over the kitten, going up a few stairs to give the kitten a chance. Soon after, the fluffy kitten slowly jumps up each step behind him. Each stair is taller than the kitten!

“No, let him do it himself,” the mom says from behind the camera to Tenny.

Tenny watches closely as the kitten hops and climbs up each carpeted stair. You can tell he’s eager to help the tiny guy.

When the kitten reaches the stair near Tenny’s head, the sweet German Shepherd decides he can’t just watch the little one struggle anymore.

Tenny leans down and gives the kitten a gentle nudge. Then he tries to pick up the kitten by the back of the neck, like mama cats and dogs do. Soon, he gently picks up the kitten with his mouth and carries him up the stairs. Tenny makes sure he’s not hurting the kitten, slowly turning around and carefully going up the steps.

When they reach the top, Tenny gently places the kitten on the floor. After completing his mission, he lies down and looks at mom as she keeps filming.

This loving and kind German Shepherd clearly adores his new baby brother and is sure to be the best big brother ever.

According to PetWave, German Shepherds are “perhaps best known as the strong, courageous and obedient guide dog for the disabled and service dog of police K-9 and search-and-rescue units, valued for its tenacity, intelligence, loyalty and focus.”

Sadly, this seems to have been a disturbing pattern that must be addressed. To protect future animals and provide him with the support he needs, he must be banned from ever owning animals again and undergo mandatory counseling.

This isn’t the only time we’ve seen German Shepherds handle babies with care. In the adorable video below, Thorin watches over a group of baby chicks! It’s too cute for words.
