When Imgur user tireddad1967‘s wife saw an unsettling Facebook post, she knew that she had the chance to save a little life.
A woman had posted that she’d stumbled upon a box that had been left outside on a stifling June day.
It read “Free to anybody that wants her (:” in permanent marker, as if whoever left it thought they were offering a generous gift to a lucky passer-by.
But their actions were irresponsible and cruel, because what was inside the box was fragile, precious, and not some object. It was a sweet but sickly kitten – who also happened to be a male.
Although the woman who found the baby could not care for him, she scooped him up and sought help elsewhere, knowing that he couldn’t be abandoned a second time.
“Someone had left him in a box on the curb in the Texas summer heat,” tireddad1967 explained. “The person that found him was taking care of her sick dog, and couldn’t care for him.”
That’s when he and his spouse stepped in. “My wife contacted the poster, thinking we could foster him, get him healthier and find him a forever home,” he said.
So the couple picked up the kitten, who was weak and malnourished, and named him Wilson. Then, he took a turn for the worst.
“He had a seizure and we rushed him to our vet. His glucose level was almost nonexistent and he was severely dehydrated. The vet put him on an I.V. drip for a couple of hours,” the poster explained.
But they refused to leave Wilson’s side. “We sat up with him all night, watching his blood sugar and temperature. He spent the next day at the vet getting more fluids.”
Amazingly, the baby pulled through and it wasn’t long before he was on the road to recovery! And as Wilson regained his health, he also gained a loving forever home.
“After all of the work of keeping him alive, he has won us over- I think we are his family now,” the poster wrote. “He spent all night roaming the house playing with everything.”
He even has a new feline brother, who may have been slightly unsure about the newcomer at first, but he’s coming around.
“[Wilson] has decided our big tabby Rocky is his best buddy (whether Rocky wants him as a best buddy is inconsequential).”
We’re so glad this precious boy found a loving forever home! Thanks to a lucky chain of events, he was definitely found by the right people at the right time!
