Move over, Corduroy! A new feline has nabbed the title for “Oldest Living Cat”!
Scooter is a Siamese cat in Mansfield, Texas who celebrated his 30th birthday this past March. The title was previously held by 26-year-old Corduroy (who is still alive, by the way), but news of the new world record holder was recently confirmed by Guinness.
Owner Gail Floyd was at Scooter’s birth way back in 1986, and the pair have been blissful buddies ever since.
Floyd attributes her cat’s long life to staying active and inquisitive, explaining that Scooter has traveled to 45 of the 50 states, and regularly visits the nursing home where Floyd’s mother lives.
“He likes to see new places and he likes people,” she told Guinness World Records.
It looks like Scooter will outlive Maggie, who was unofficially the world’s oldest dog. She recently passed away at age 30, an almost unheard of age for a dog, especially for her size.
And if Scooter lives to be 38 years and 4 days old, he’ll snatch the title for “Oldest Cat Ever” from Creme Puff, also a Texan, who crossed the Rainbow Bridge back in 2005.
