Katy Perry is mourning the loss of her beloved cat, Kitty Purry.
The singer announced the death of her feline friend on Instagram in a touching post, sharing, “Sadly, Kitty completed her 9th life last night.”
In the multi-photo post featuring Kitty and Katy, the saddened cat mom sent loving wishes to her tabby darling, “I hope she rests in salmon fillets and tuna tartare way up in catnip heaven.”
Perry also revealed how the pair first met 15 years ago when the young tabby snuck into her life via an open window. “Kitty Purry crawled through my then-boyfriend’s window 15 years ago, fully pregnant and seeking shelter. Two litters and many moons later, this street cat became a lovable mascot to many.”
Kitty served as an inspiration to Katy as well. The fluffy tabby turned Perry into a cat lover, which wasn’t something she expected as she’s allergic to cats. But, as she told Jetset Magazine, “I was such a dog person growing up, I didn’t really understand cats until my first cat, Kitty Purry walked into my life and wouldn’t leave. I had to get to know her, be patient with her. I was interested in all her little characteristics and idiosyncrasies”.
The “Roar” singer also created two perfumes with names inspired by her love for Kitty Purry. Plus, Perry’s CoverGirl line features a lipstick shade named for her longtime cat.

In addition to saying good-bye to her feline inspiration, Perry thanked her furry friend, writing, “Kitty, thanks for the cuddles and companionship along the way.”
Perry also expressed gratitude for brother and Gareth Walters, thanking them “for being great co-parents”.
Walters shared his good-bye to Kitty Purry via Instagram as well, posting, “This deeply saddens me to say, and I’m struggling to find the right words. Last night I had to say goodbye to my favorite little purr. I am heartbroken at this sudden loss. Kitty had an unbelievable life, and was nothing but love throughout. I’m incredibly lucky to have had her in my life these past few years.”
In trying to cope with her loss, Walters said, “I’m already missing the simple pleasures of her jumping into my lap, her constant purring, and her frequent disobedience to any rule I attempted to make for her. I know she will be deeply missed by anyone who had the pleasure of meeting her.”
He also said Kitty Purry was a cat with “heart like no other animal I knew.”
“I’ll never forget how much love and joy you brought to me. I love and very much miss you, Kitty.”
