Cats are pretty sure of themselves when it comes to the hunt, so it can be surprising when the game strikes back. But cats should know…magpies are no ordinary target. In fact, felines might even be the prey when dealing with magpies.

So purrhaps felines might as well hang up the hunt because magpies take no mess from cats. Or anyone else, for that matter.

When magpies are mating and nesting, they can get pretty nasty in defense of their brood. Magnus the Orange has learned this fact more than once while climbing trees in his backyard. And lucky for us, Magnus’s dad caught an encounter between the orange boy and one of these black-and-white feathered meanies on camera and shared it on TikTok.

Becoming the Hunted

Magnus the Orange is a bold cat who loves exploring on high. But one day, as he was casually chilling in a tree, he found himself the victim of a magpie attack!

And that’s not unusual because magpies can get pretty defensive and swoopy. We can’t blame them; the birds are just being protective parents. But Magnus takes offense, and it’s written plainly on his face in the video while the magpie is busy yelling at him.

Magnus insists he was trying to keep to himself for some harmless branch walking, yet it seems the orange tabby might not be the innocent tree climber he claims to be.

Magnus’s dad filled in the backstory between cat and bird in a comment, “Magnus went after their babies once, and they have never forgotten about it.”

Well, that indeed flips the script! And to show Magnus isn’t so innocent, his dad posted another clip that shows the feathered and furred back at it and ready to finish the battle.

And while most magpies and cats don’t get along, this Black Cat And Magpie Are Birds Of A Feather!

More Prey Throwing Shade at Their Feline Foes

Squirrels play a dangerous game by taunting cats (and their doggo buddies) through windows!

Just a tuxedo bird, waiting for some other feathered friends to stop by for a bite…

Oh, I didn’t see you there, kind feline…

With all her energy, Nikki can outstare any bird that perches outside her window.

What a squirrel sees before the chase begins…

Ever feel like someone is watching you?

With only a screen between Ash and his quarry, this squirrel is bold…

Whoa, that’s a big bird.

Hello, fine feline; I’d like to discuss the virtues of a non-squirrel diet with you.

Waiting…watching…Didi will have her pesky pigeons!

Cats can’t help staring longingly at those that scurry and fly; it’s just part of what makes a cat a cat. And if you’ve ever wondered why your kitty makes crazy noises at prey, let a cat tell you: Why Do Cats Chatter At Birds.
