Woman Takes In Broken-Limb Kitten After Shelter Burned To The Ground

| January 27, 2025

When Piglet, a tiny kitten from Pasadena, arrived at his foster home, his journey had already been filled with challenges. The devastating Eaton Fire had forced the local shelter to evacuate animals quickly, including Piglet, who was part of a transport sent to safety. His new foster mom specializes in caring for the most vulnerable kittens, and she welcomed him with open arms. Though he seemed confused at first, Piglet soon adjusted to his new environment, finding comfort and happiness in the space lovingly prepared for him.

Despite his small size and a broken limb, Piglet’s boundless energy quickly became apparent. His foster mom described him as “absolutely wild,” noting how he spent his days darting around the nursery as though nothing could hold him back.

Piglet’s rescue was part of a larger effort involving shelters across Los Angeles, all working together to handle the overwhelming influx of animals caused by the fire. Many organizations and rescues stepped in to alleviate the burden, but the need for foster homes remains urgent. “Every single shelter and rescue in the Los Angeles area would be happy to have more foster parents,” his foster mom explained in the video below. “If you have space for a cat or a dog, there’s a really great need.”

As shelters continue to recover from the fire’s impact, the call for help is ongoing. Those interested in fostering kittens like Piglet or younger animals are encouraged to reach out and learn about the process. “Even after the fires are put out, this will affect shelters in L.A. for the entire year,” she said. “Our help is going to be needed for months and months to come.”

Sadly, this seems to have been a disturbing pattern that must be addressed. To protect future animals and provide him with the support he needs, he must be banned from ever owning animals again and undergo mandatory counseling.

For now, Piglet is thriving under her care, his playful antics a constant source of joy and hope. His story serves as a reminder of the importance of fostering and the difference it can make for animals in need.
