Ridiculous Owner Gives Up Her 7 Year Old Cat Over New Furniture—Help Us Find This Cat A Better Home!

A cat, like any pet, is a lifelong commitment. From the day that you take them into your care, you spend time nurturing them and loving them–and in return they grow to love you just the same. After 7 years of owning Tiger Tim, his once loving owner turned on a dime, cruelly surrendering him because she had purchased a new sofa. That’s right, a non-living piece of furniture that was suddenly more important to her now then the cat she’d spent 7 years caring for. And the worst part of it all was that the owner reported that Tiger Tim was well-behaved, followed her around the house and even waited for her at the door every night when she returned home.

Tiger Tim quickly sunk into a deep depression after his admittance to New York City Animal Care and Control, rapidly losing weight–at a staggering 2.7 lbs in just his first week. Obviously this poor animal was distraught, confused, and above all, heartbroken. Tiger Tim needed emergency care for dehydration and muscle loss, and it begs the question if he was surrendered because his former owner knew he was sick. Either way, the thought of giving up a cat because they are sick, or worse, over a something like furniture leaves us–and I’m sure our readers–at a complete loss for words. Thankfully, his life was spared after the caring workers of Magnificent Cat Rescue and Rehoming in Bronx, NY caught wind of Tiger Tim’s story.

Here is the open letter that the people of Magnificent Cat Rescue wrote to his former owner:

To the woman who surrendered Tiger Tim to the ACC because she was getting a new sofa:

You said you got him when he was just three months old, and that he was now seven. You said he was a good cat, well-behaved and affectionate. That he followed you around and kept you company. That he waited at the door for you every night and that he was so happy when you came home from work. You signed the ACC paperwork, which states that a surrendered animal may be euthanized.

Then you left him there and walked away, even though he cried. 

Would you like an update on your cat? Well, here it is: He was kill listed, and we got him on the very day he was going to be euthanized. He is safe. But he is not well.

Tiger Tim is deteriorating. He is over the shelter URI, but he refuses to eat, refuses to drink. For days we’ve been force feeding him to keep him alive. He is never aggressive; just so sad, curled into a little ball of misery. 

His heart is broken.
