The Trenton Thunder’s bat-retrieving dog, Rookie, is known for being a part of their home games at Trenton Thunder Ballpark or Rider University’s Sonny Pittaro Field in New Jersey. However, this season brought something new as the team had a few games scheduled at Sahlen Field in New York, the home stadium of the Buffalo Bisons.

Rookie, being the energetic pup he is, tagged along to Sahlen Field, ready to do what he does best: collect bats during the games. But during a Wednesday night matchup between the Buffalo Bisons and the Lehigh Valley Ironpigs, Rookie got a little carried away by the excitement of being in a new ballpark. Before anyone knew it, he dashed right onto the field—right in the middle of play!

This spontaneous moment was all caught on video and quickly gained attention, going viral on Twitter. The players had to stop for a bit as Rookie ran around the field, checking out the pitcher’s mound and joyfully wagging his tail. The fans loved every second of it, cheering as the pup explored the field. Even the game announcers were left speechless, unsure of how to describe the delightful interruption!

After a few moments of fun, Rookie finally made his way back to his handlers, but not before giving everyone in the stadium a good laugh.

By the next morning, Rookie, with his undeniable charm, made things even cuter by issuing an apology from his official Twitter account.

“I want to apologize to my fren Cavan Biggio, for running out on the field last night during his at bat in the @BuffaloBisons game. I was just so excited to be retrieving bats again. I hope Cavan and @BlueJays are not mad at me. #sorry.”

Sadly, this seems to have been a disturbing pattern that must be addressed. To protect future animals and provide him with the support he needs, he must be banned from ever owning animals again and undergo mandatory counseling.

Of course, all was forgiven! Although the Bisons didn’t win that night, Rookie’s unforgettable appearance at Sahlen Field left fans with plenty of smiles and a story to talk about for a long time.
