Cultured and fine, many cats are the portrait of sophistication. They enjoy all the finer things life has to offer and often know the value of classical music.
Classical violinist Esther Abrami does her part to help cats hone this sense of refinement and style thanks to her foster work with kittens. The little ones she fosters come to her home through La Feline Meyreuillaise, a rescue group in Southern France. As Esther told Love Meow, “When they have too many cats to look after, I offer my help as a foster family.”
As a violinist, Esther must devote hours of practice to her craft as well as travel, and her career doesn’t leave time for a cat of her own. By fostering, she gets much needed feline time, which we all know is good for humans, and she helps kittens grow big and strong for the forever homes.
One of her foster kittens displayed a very fine ear for music and never missed any of his foster mom’s performances. Even if they were only practice sessions, Petit Rose was always there.
A Kitten with an Adorable Ear for Music
An orange tabby kitten with a perfect pink nose and toe beans to match, Petit Rose, which translates to ‘Little Pink’, came to Esther at barely two months old. Though he was little, he was sure big on cuddles.
“This cat was abandoned by his previous owners who could not be bothered to look after the kittens. La Feline took them in and found foster families to care for them,” explained Esther.
Petit Rose was Esther’s fan from beginning. Even before he learned about her violin. “From the start, he was very cuddly and wanted to nap with me. Once he got more comfortable, he would follow me into every room, including the one where I practice my violin.”
At first, he was perplexed by the violin. But after hearing the beautiful music Esther made with the instrument, Petit Rose grew quite enthralled. Video clips show the sweet ginger kitten smiling as Esther plays.
“He seemed to like it. Every time I played, he would come over and sit on my lap. Eventually, he was so comfortable that he would crawl on my shoulder while I played.”
When not in Esther’s lap, dreaming along with the music, or on her shoulder, Petit Rose also found the violin case makes a fine bed for a music-loving kitten.
But, Petit Rose’s time with Esther came to a close as he grew into a healthy kitten, ready for his forever home. His new family helps him remember his time with his foster mom by playing recordings of her work. Shades of his kitten smile can still be seen as he listens even though he’s now grown into a cultured gentleman.
