On Thursday, April 14th, Margaret Miles made quite an impression on Jeopardy! with her impressive intelligence and charmingly “stereotypical” cat lady-ness.
Miles, a librarian at the New Hanover County Public Library in Wilmington, North Carolina, had a substantial $7,600 lead halfway through the show.
That’s when host Alex Trebek took a pause from the game and asked her, “What do you do for fun?”
“What do I do for fun?” Miles pondered. “Knit. And pet cats. I’m hopelessly stereotypical.”
Miles went on to win $40,100.
In a story by the Huffington Post, this feline-loving librarian weighed in:
“I’m either flattered and bemused, or bemused and flattered. The feelings keep trading places. As a lifelong ‘Jeopardy’ fan, it was a huge treat to have the chance to be part of it, and I had a great time.”
She also gave props to librarians everywhere.
“Librarians are who we are because we love both answers and questions; it’s a pleasure to share what we know, and even more fun to get the chance to learn something new while finding an answer to someone’s question. I think it would be especially cool if seeing some buzz about a librarian on Twitter and Facebook reminds people to share some love with their local librarians.”
How sweet is she?!
And let’s not forget the important lesson, here: Not only is it great to be a crazy cat lady/gent, but one day, it may also pay.
