The Magnificent 7 Cats are Rocky, Prince, Junior, Ugs, Princess Pixie, Tom and Norman. They live with their people in London, England.
Over the coming weeks, we’re going to be meeting each of the 7 cats. This week, half Persian, half teddy bear, 100% eccentric: it’s Tom.
Meet Tom. Some people call him Tommy and some people call him Bear Boy. But his real name is Tomerine (pronounced Tom-er-eeny). This is him at just 12 weeks old.
Born in June 2011, Tom is a pure-bred seal-point Persian from a litter of 6. Finding Tom was easy for his new owners; Tom picked them! His people visited the breeder and Tom walked right up to Dad and lay on his back to be tickled, purring and biting his fingers. It was love at first sight.
To say that Tom is a little eccentric is perhaps an understatement. His face looks permanently grumpy, his eyes are googly and wobble from side-to-side. He has a little pink lip, tiny teeth and big fat furry arms which make him look like a teddy bear.
He shuffles along waggling his bottom meowing like an angry old man. When he wants something (usually cheese – Tom is cheese addict. Cheddar is his favourite) he’ll look you right in the eye and meowww until he gets it. Tom can be pretty vocal when he wants something – which is most of the time.
Tom’s favourite thing – other than cheese (and cream, ice cream and butter. In fact all dairy products) is hiding – particularly among flowers where he thinks he’s invisible. He doesn’t seem to realise that those googly eyes are a give away. Tom maybe many things, but well-camouflaged isn’t one of them. Or quiet. Stealth isn’t his strong point.
Other times he just wants a cuddle and likes nothing better to lie in his mum or dad’s arms, wrapping his front paws tightly around their wrist while they tickle his chin. He’s often asleep within a minute or two, just like a human baby.
Tom has a bit of a reputation as a flirt. He definitely has an eye for the ladies. I guess he has the looks for it. He was once offered the chance to appear in an ad campaign for a global mobile communications company. Sadly, the photo shoot was in LA (which is quite far from Putney) so Tom stayed at home.
The weirdest thing about Tom is his sixth sense. He has ice-cream radar. It doesn’t matter where he is in the house, if someone opens the ice cream (even silently) he’s on the scene in seconds, meowing and eyes googling until he gets a little to lick off the end of a finger.
Tom can be quite eccentric, too. He’s perfectly happy to sit for an hour staring at a brick wall; it doesn’t take much to amuse him. He once made friends with a cobweb floating on the breeze and got quite upset when it disappeared. Stared up at the sky for ages. Odd boy.
Tom has his own Facebook page, too. Just a place for him to be centre of attention and hang-out with his laydeez around the world.
Come and meet Tom and his 6 siblings on The Magnificent 7 Cats Facebook page or see the best our pictures on Instagram.
We post great new photos every day and we’d love to hear from you – and your kitties!
