They say that the average cat lives about 15 years. So that would mean that Tigger the 21 year old cat, is most certainly a senior citizen (I mean, that’s 189 in cat years!!)
Go back to this time last year, and this senior kitty faced something he didn’t deserve: he was abandoned at the vet, most likely due to his declining health. After 20 years of love and loyalty he was thrown away like he was nothing. (Heartbreaking, I know.)
The vets discovered that his kidneys were failing, and there was also a golf ball-sized tumor on his body. The vet he was taken to thought none other than to care for him for the rest of his days… that is until one woman fell in love with Tigger, who also happened to be looking for a second cat for her home to serve as a companion to her six-year-old cat. Adriene, a marketing coordinator for the Charm City Veterinary Hospital in Baltimore, MD, read about Tigger on the Canton Neighbors Facebook page after his story was shared. She and her boyfriend both knew that they needed to give this cat a forever home:
We looked at each other and we were like, ‘We’re taking that cat,’” Buisch said. “When we brought him home that night it was like he never forgot what it was like to have pillows and blankets.”
Adriene brought Tigger in with loving arms, working hard to help him put weight back on and live as comfortably as possible for the rest of his days. Poor Tigger was underweight, his fur was matted and required a shave, but he was still gentle and sweet. Adriene gave Tigger all the love he needed, and decided that she wanted to do something even more special for this cat that’s already captured her heart: she wanted to make a bucket list for Tigger so that he can enjoy his last days in the best way possible.
From Adriene…
So many of you might recall the 20 yr (now 21) that we adopted in Feb. who was abandoned by his owner. Though he is in kidney failure and we found a tumor, he kicks it like a 12 yr old. So we created a bucket list for our old man Tigger…we’ve crossed a few off the list, but this has been his favorite.
Thanksgiving weekend we took him to the beach and he loved it! Literally sunbathed in the sand and walks along the water all afternoon. Needless to say he made a lot of friends as people stopped to pet him and hear his story.
We are sure that Tigger is happy and grateful to this kind woman who took a chance on him, even though she knew her time left with him would be limited.
“We’re completely attached at this point,” she said.
You’re a hero in our book, Adriene!! Share this feel good story with your friends!
