Losing a pet is one of the hardest things that we animal lovers will ever have to face. There is no right or wrong way to grieve, and we all do it differently. One woman in mourning decided that the best way to honor the memory of her beloved cat, Saffron, was to cover the adoption fees of all the adult cats at a local rescue. Her hope is that they all find loving homes.
“Angels walk among us. On Friday, something very special happened,” says a post on the MEOW Cat Rescue Facebook page, based in Kirkland, Washington. “She became a Guardian Angel for every adult cat in the shelter. Every beautiful one of them. A Guardian Angel is someone who pre-pays the adoption fee for a cat…which means that there will be no fee at the time of the adoption.”
This beautiful gesture does not mean that the public is welcome to “free” cats – candidates will still be screened. But what it does mean is that someone truly cares… so much so, that she did everything in her power help these kitties find forever families.
It means that people who’ve been wanting to adopt a cat may open their eyes to the possibility of getting an adult or senior cat instead of a kitten.
It means that those who have been on the fence about adopting might be more likely to go into the shelter, where they’ll fall in love with a furry friend.
It means that families can use the money they saved on adoption fees to buy extra toys and treats to spoil their new four-legged family member.
We hope that the donations of this “Guardian Angel” – in honor of Saffron – bring awareness to these beautiful adult cats, which will help them find forever homes.
“I wish I may, I wish I might…find a home by Christmas night,” reads the rescue’s Facebook post.
