Everyone, meet Smeagol–a rescued cat with a severely broken jaw. Smeagol was saved by a young woman who didn’t give up on him despite the odds.
It was January 9, 2015 in Belize when the young woman was driving on a highway and she spotted and passed by a kitten on the side of the road. She quickly turned her car around, hoping that the poor kitty won’t get run over by passing vehicles.
She carried the kitty to her car and then she discovered that the kitty had a broken jaw, and the poor thing was starving.
She immediately brought the kitten to the vet. There they found out that the kitten weighed less than a pound. When she asked what the vet could do about the kitten’s jaw, she was informed that since the kitten is too tiny and weak, and since they didn’t have the resources, it’s impossible to wire the kitten’s jaw back. She was advised that putting the kitten to sleep may be the best option.
The woman still hoped that there may still be a chance for this kitten to live. She asked the vet if the kitten would have any difficulties eating even if they didn’t wire his jaw. She then tried to give him a tin of cat food, and to their surprise, the kitten ate like crazy!
So she brought the kitten home with her, and named him Smeagol, because of his huge eyes.
The vet gave Smeagol some antibiotics for his jaw which he took for 6 weeks. And thankfully, Smeagol was able to recover.
Smeagol’s jaw was a little crooked but it was healed. He has a cute snaggletooth too.
And by then, he was able to eat dry food.
We absolutely love how derpy Smeagol is!
